Alum. Wheels & Spokes for XT600E
I have an 1990 XT600E which I have modified as many have. I would like to know what is
the easiest way to install Aluminum wheels or where do I find the correct spokes to do this modification? Should I install an 18 inch rear wheel? Thanks for any help |
DID, Excel and Sun make very good rims - check at you local dealer for those.
Buchanan (http://www.buchananspokes.com/) makes very high quality spokes as well - they come almost unanimously recommended as the best. Cheers, Wright ------------------ Wright Bagwell http://www.geocities.com/wwbagwell/ |
1990 XT600E here to...I'm also looking forward to laying my hands on some stainless steel spokes and nipples.... I hate rust! haha :thumbup1: rims.. I gotta wait some more time...my wallet is too light right now..

Chrome Wheels on a Trail bike in this day and age is primitive, would anybody laying out a few grand on a brand new XT600 begrudge paying a few quid extra for something that has been standard on trail bikes for over 25 years.
I went for the TTR wow alloy rims, even that seems to be cheap quality in a pure penny pinching way. Mine says made in Italy TTR600RE or is that just assembled in Italy ? either way it isn't normal Japanese or Yamaha quality. Whatever I chose the bike anyway and I am happy with it. :mchappy: |
Rims
I have put new rims and spikes on my TT600RE and i take Exel rims much stronger then those orginal wich was full of cracks after few jumps and endouro tours.I love those exel rims much harder stuff and much more scratch ree then orginals rims and i am sure those blend in orgina rim are trash they broke wery easy on my bike.

changing rims
If you can manage the legal part of having a rear 18" instead of 17" there is a quick way: get the wheels from an old XT\Tenere', models from 87 to 89 are also with rear disk so are plug & play, older models you will need to take hub from your original 17" wheel and spokes\nipples\rim from the other. I did one year ago, a wheel set from a wreck (front rear) paid 100 euro included a good rear tire...
