Beefing up alternator output

My 3AJ's weedy headlamps are really getting on my nerves. I'd also like to get an electric vest for next winter, but am concerned that the alternator won't be up to the job.

I've looked through past posts and on Kedo website for info, but can't find any. I would look through the excellent tenere owner's sites but can't speak german/dutch.

I was thinking of rewiring the alternator, but only because I have heard of people doing this - I have no idea what's involved.

COmments?

rewiring can boost the output of the alternator significantly if it's done properly.
but first try to switch your lights with a relay, connecting the lights directly to the battery. use new wires with 1,5mm² diameter.
this can make a significant difference because you overcome all the old power-consuming cable connectors and switches.
with another relay switched like this you can also boost your horn.

your alternator should deliver about 180 W (or 14V/12A @ 5000rpm).
to calculate wether this is enough to supply additional devices, just add up the watts of all devices (lights, indicators, horn etc..)
