Camchain tensioner
Does anyone know what thread is on the cap that seats the spring in an xt600 camchain tensioner? Mine has stripped it's thread in the ali housing and it looks like it's a complete assembly to replace it, rather see if I can find a helicoil the right size or weld up and retap if I know the size.

Just found it in the manual under torque settings, M16x1 that will be fun to find...

m6x1 is the most common M6 size..
Should be an easy repair.. You can buy size specific helicoil kits on ebay for about £15 Picture of the damage ?? |
Ted, I think he mentioned M16... :s

So he did.... I didnt read that properly !! :oops2: Yeah, thats not a common size at all..... I don't think i've ever seen one for sale like that. In that case, take it to a local small engineers. Most will do it on the side for a tenner etc.. Although, I wouldnt be surprised if you saw a CCT in Ebay going for nothing either. You know the drill :) |
I had exactly the same trouble some time back- unfortunately for me I was in Zambia when it happened. The engineering works I asked for help actually laughed at me! I fixed it with a lot of epoxy glue and some luck and replaced it back in South Africa- it was not as expensive as I expected, cant recall exactly, but I guess about the same price as the helicoil set would be.

Looking at the housing I recon it would take an M18x1.5 tap which I probably have at work, could then make an insert from a spark plug thread and tap down the middle back to M16x1, not that I'm tight or anything...
