carburator hose routing ? Help!

Hello Everybody, I 'am new to this forum, but I'am glad I found it.
I just purchased a 86 xt 600 and it has some sputtering problems, I suspect the carb needs some cleaning and some work. My question is how are the hoses on the carb to be hooked up? I have a repair manual but those pics are to dark to see proper hose routing. The reason I ask is the hose from the float bowl drain runs to the outlet above it on the main body of the carb. this upper outlet looks like a bowl vent, is it? I disconected it and can't tell any differance, in performance. any pic's or advise would be very helpfull Thanks Robert.http://%20pics/ I have tryed to attach a photo maybe this will help the outlet that i'am talking about is above the gas inlet the bowl drain hose was attached to it. what is it? |

Well what does the manual say ?? Is you have the clymer etc, it should say what it goes too.
Could just be a breather or maybe a take off point for a balancer (is it twin carb) ? And yes, the float boal drain should not be attatched to it (if thats what you meant) |
I have a yamaha factory shop manual the pics are so dark that I cant see the hose routing, and yes it's a dual carb. I was hoping some one could look at their xt and see if a hose connects to the top outlet, does it just hang or maybee conect to the air box or what?

Float bowl vent
Outakontroll, this connection above the petrol connection is indeed one of the flot bowl vents. Normally, there's a hose there that hangs loose downwards. It should not be connected to the bowl drain.
However, there is another vent for the bowl, between the two carbs, so it will probably not solve your problem. From my experience, these carbs / engines are very sensitive to clogged air filters. Wash 3x in petrol, both the outside and inside filters, and lightly oil them. Then try again. Auke |
Try looking at your needle and seat position
Hi there mate my bike also spluttered a bit and throught a long process we have discovered that it is the needle and seat position. iI dont now if this will help you but mave a look anyway, its never a bad thing.
