The thing is a Kawasaki Z1000 (1978 era) cam chain tensioner wheel. I just wheacked a bolt thru it - drilled a hole in the suspension "dog-bone" and used an old spring I had in me box of bits :thumbup1:

You can't really see it on the bike, but it does the job OK.

I got a generic "universal" drive chain tensioner for my old DR600, from a motocross shop a couple of years back, for £10. Must be something similar around - Google/eBay :confused1:

This is a home-brew "Heath Robinson" affair on me Trumpet, using a Z900 cam chain guide sprocket!!!!

You can run the chain a bit slacker - so no chance of fookin' the gearbox bearing/shaft!
