Checking In

FNG checking in. I bought a '85 Yamaha XT600 on Monday night and have been trying to learn as much about it as possible, and came across this site. So far the bike is doing pretty well. It has some carb issues, in that it wants to stall when moving off choke? Other than that I'm pleased with the bike. Thanks to all who have posted. I have alot of reading to do.

Just check the idle screw... if the carb is like the 1990 xt600E model there is a screw on one of the sides of the carb that has a spring... turn the bike on and let it heat up...take the choke off and screw/unscrew that screw until it feels good on idle.....

Good luck

Thanks for the info. I checked and yes it does have an idle screw (finger adjustable). I'll give it a try.

don't forget to post back on that :innocent:

This was helpful for me too!

Hey Bacardi23 - the heads up with the choke is useful info - thanks! I have the same problem Hoss has with my VJ1 '86 - good to know.

Actually I should say hello to all who use this forum - you probably all know my partner in crime - XT Girl, bit of veteran hubber - she posts stuff regularly, I'm a bit of a late comer to all of this!

Anyhoooow thanks Bacardi23!

You're welcome! Glad I could help and don't forget to check you're sparkplug color and ensure it has the correct gap!

By the way, I've just checked your XTGirl page... which one of you decided to dive into the water?

hahaha that was Mardi :scooter: I wasn't on that trip, but I'll have my chance to do similar less then graceful things in September on another trip we are taking!

Thanks for the spark plug tip

Sorry for the delay on the report. It worked like a charm! I set the idle around 1000 rpm. The sticker inside the side cover indicates an idle speed of 1350 which seemed too high, so I backed it off. Thanks again. :thumbup1:
