clutch problem

I changed the clutch plates because they were slipping, but now I can barely start the bike when in first gear specially before warming it up. When I start the bike in neutral and I try to gear the first it tries to run even with the clutch pressed.

What's wrong? what can it be done to solve this?

Thanks in advance....

both outside 'fibre' plates are a different size to the rest. Ensure that they're in the correct position.

Yes, you are right; my bike is an XT 600 Yamaha 1999. I replaced all 8 fiber plates and apparently they are all the same. I used the same 7 metal plates. Once the bike is totally warmed up no problem at all. I read in this forum that synthetic oil should be used.

Is it true? Any other comment?

I am inclined towards Rock oil, Mineral or Semi-synth.

No .....there are two plates thicker than the other six which have to be in a certain position, also did you adjust the clutch release mechanism properly? .....you need an exploded view of the engine assembly showing the clutch plates and their correct position, I dont know how to bring the picture on this website but I,m sure someone will come along soon and show the diagram I mean...good luck...:thumbup1:
