under load sometimes my new clutch slips as my old one did :confused1: .i'm sure it's fitted ok & adjusted correctly :( .any tips :rolleyes2: ?.:scooter: .

What oil do you have in your bike? I'm told that semi synthetic can make a clutch slip. XT's need mineral oil. I've a 3AJ with a slipping clutch, the guy I bought it from had put in semi synthetic. Just waiting for time to drain it and try. Although there's a chance that the semi will have penetrated the clutch plates. Have to see. Might be worth putting in mineral and trying yours as it may not be too late? Good luck

I guess it comes down to:

worn plates - but you have new ones
bad adjustment -you still have a little slack in the cable even when hot ?
wrong oil - too thick, or synthetic like Alflow says. Is it better when hot? If so this would suggest it's oil.

You not missing any plates?

Plain plates not warped, worn too thin?

springs still within specification length?

that's all I can think of!

XT's dont NEED mineral oil nor do they run badly with synthetic.

What you need is the RIGHT oil. Use motorcycle oil only which doesnt have artificial slip enhancers which plays havok with wet clutches.

Clutch slip usually happens when your plates and/or springs are worn. Incorrect oil can cause this too.

Clutch slip is usually when the plates are cold as they dont bite as well but it can also happen when you ride very hard which makes the oil very thin through overheating.

How many miles do your plates have on them ?
