Confused by Chris Scott
I am planning an overland trip from London to Cape Town and, same as Ewan McGregor, the first thing I did was to buy the Adventure Motorcycling Handbook.
I am currently weighing up the options for a suitable bike and saw on page 40 of the latest edition of the AMH that the XT600E has a range of 530km/355mls at 19kpl/45mpUSg. Now, with a 15l tank, the sums clearly doesn't add up, unless my maths are failing me horribly! Can somebody please tell me what the apporoximate range for a standard XT600 is? ------------------ |
well, you've got the data: 19kpl and 15 litres is 285km. Chris was presumably referring to the older model with a bigger tank
|
As Rich said, probably referring to the Tenere model (28 litre tank). Getting quite old now?
A newer XT/TT or XR/XL with a large aftermarket tank may be a better bet. I believe Rich Lees has such a bike for sale, already equipped? [This message has been edited by Steve Pickford (edited 13 June 2005).] |
Hi
I get at leasts 200 miles out of my 23 ltr Tenere. I would recommend is buying a tenere go for the AJ3 model and fit a kick starter. Charlie |
Thanx guys! All very useful.
Rich, any info on the bike for sale? (If it is still for sale!) |
its still for sale: check the post at http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb...ML/000628.html
cheers Rich |
Thanx Rich, but for the moment it is a bit rich for my budget! (pardon the pun!)
One day though...! |
An XT600E should give you at least 23 kms. per litre. Especially when travelling.

Hi - I have a 3AJ for sale in the UK. Just posted on the 'bikes for sale' page.
My middle name is 'inexpensive' (just don't call me cheap). ------------------ Barry 3AJ Tenere |
In case it isn't obvious yet, NAMSA spotted the first recorded typo in AMH5. No doubt many more will crop up.
I was referring to the 15L XT-E which should return 285km/190 miles at a typical 19kpl. The other Top Ten mpgs look about right. Chris S "The first thing I did was buy myself a calculator" |
