Corbin Seat for XT600E - Any good ??
 

Im thinking of getting one as the original seat is a plank !!

Anyone got one ?? Any good ?

Are there any companys out there who make a better one ??

I emailed a corbin stockist and they said the corbin seats will only fit an XT600 from the early 90's although Corbins website doesnt state this.

You think they're correct ?

Any other seating options ?

According to Bernd Tesch a sheep fur is perfect for long trips. Because I had a original Scottish sheep fur on the floor (bought from a vacation in Scotland sometime) I tried this and made it fit on my XT600E. And I am very pleased about it.

A hear many disadvantages about putting a sheep fur on the motorbike. But most of the times, people who didn't try one are saying this.

Because of the sheep fur I can ride long distances with no problem, 1100km on one day is no problem. In the rain it keeps my but dry! Only the sides get whet, and because it is slightly greased, you can shake it right off and then its dry. When its cold outside it feels warm, when its warm outside it keeps you cool. It sits good. Perhaps it looks a bit strange, or uncool, but I don't mind.

At Home, when driving short distances, I don't use the sheep fur, because it gets stolen I'm afraid.

I intended to use a sheep fur as well as a rebuilt seat.

It looks like i will have to getl pads put into my seat and then a sheep fur as well..

I dont mind if it looks cool or not.

I like the look of your bike maggnerbagger. How does it handle when fully loaded ? have you upgraded your suspension. Is it Very slow when loaded?? Can you still cruise at 60-70mph ?

I think the bike looks overweight. But I have to bring a lot with me ... 10L petrol in the pannier, oil, two tires, two sleeping bags. And I have a big sleeping mattress and tent. So it is a bit heavy. But it handles well. Although I haven't really been to a desert in Africa or anything. I have been in Island, through the rivers, and through some easy sand. It was OK. And I can still drive 60-70mph on asphalt and about 55mph on gravel.

But there is to less weight on the front. I hope to fix this with an acerbis tank, so I don't need 10L petrol in the panniers.

I think you should really be looking to upgrade to a harder rear shock or even better a new shock.

Progressive and stiffer front springs too. Will change the bike to a much nicer ride.

But I have just bought last year a brand new complete Wilbers rear shock! Adjustable pre-load and damping and all. Very good investment. Does it make a big difference when I put new progressive springs in front aswell? Every year I make adjustments, the list is endless!

I havnt changed mine but many people have and swear by it. The originals are just too soft for me even unloaded on the road. They use up half their travel before they have even hit a bump and make breaking spongy.

Progressive springs get firmer the more you compress them and offer a more stable balanced ride. Ill be getting some asasp.

Yes progressive front springs really work. I have installed them in a number of customers bikes and everyone really likes them. I did a bunch of dirt riding on a 1100 gold wing this last summer (nice to live 25km from the crest of the rocky mtns) with progressive springs in the front and amazed some XL and GS riders. Probably too expensive but Meyer daylong seats used to be amazing. The main thing is to get more width so you get away from the plank effect.

Are we sure the Corbin seat will not fit the 2003 XT600E?

I had this reply from "Motorcycle Road & Race" here in the UK

"Hi

As we recently found out at a lot of expense, the corbin saddle only fits the old shape XT600e's (early 90's)

Yamaha changed the tank, side panels and saddle shape on the 1995-2003 XT600E's. So unless you have a very very late registered early bike i dont think you'll have any joy.

I don't work for them no. They are based in Hastings, East Sussex and close to where I live, which I why I contacted them (contact details in my last post).

Following on from your comments, although I would like one of these seats, I will want to be sure that they will accept the risk of it not fitting before I order, which won't be for a while, my piggy bank needs filling :)

If you do purchase a Corbin, please let us know if it fits ok.

EDIT:: I have phoned 1066 and asked them to confirm. They are going to contact Corbin. I'll keep you posted.
