Disposing of oil when on the road...
Hello,
Im on the first leg of a Cape to Cairo trip and will soon be needing to do an oil change. The trouble in Africa is that there are no oil recycling options and i would like to avoid dumping oil into the environment. Anyone out there got a clever idea? Carrying it out is not an option. Jim |
Burn it?

Bury it !
|
lubricate your chain with it !

That's a good one. In fact Yammie says in the manual that the chain should always be lubricated with engine oil.

Thanks for teh suggestions.
I guess theres no eco-friendly way to do it... I will bury what i cant use. Jim |
Collect the oil in a (coke) bottle, bring it to the nearest garage who will take care in a most friendly way...
Honestly eco stuff hasnt reach africa so much yet, have a look around and most of these open-air garage's have a nice layer of oil&sand to work on... Then again, your used oil might be still useful in an old peugot... |
Hey Jim,
I just changed my oil in Mangochi and left the used stuff with the guys there who soak their roof-poles in it to keep out termites. That, at least, saves a tree or two... Hunter |
