Drive Chain for 88 xt600 tenere
Hi all, i am looking for a keenly priced chain for my Tenere.
The previous guy put a non o ring chain o!!!!. Anybody tried one of those Iris chains? Best place to buy from? Atb Floyd |
I'm using an RK X-ring Chain kit with JT sprockets... can't go wrong with these ;)
Altogether with shipping and Customs I paid about 115€.. Vando beer |
I use did vx2... I buy it on ebay together with sprockets for just under 100euro shipped(have recently seen them for about 85euro shipped. I buy them frab ebay.de and get them shipped to me in Denmark). A lot of dealers let you choose the sprocketsize, so you can get the sprockets you want/need for no extra costs.
Like this (for my 600e model): eBay: Neue und gebrauchte Elektronikartikel, Autos, Kleidung, Sammlerstcke, Sportartikel und mehr alles zu gnstigen Preisen |
Thanks lads.
I only want a chain. The chain on is not that old but it wont last long on a thumper.:stormy: |
hi floyd stay well clear of IRIS chains they are low grade ,get a DID/RK or a well known brand . a few mates have had IRIS chains and they were all bad news from day 1 . zigzag
|
Hi Zigzag, i am usually a DID man but in thsse cost conscience times! I am just looking at alternatives if thdg are reasonable quality:cool:
|
Thats why I suggested a complete chainkit, great value, and its almost as cheep as buying only the chain. Use it with the supplied sprockets and use youre current ones when the new gets worn.
Should last you a long time. |
Currently has a thc chain on. Never heard of them

I seem to be averaging about 5k miles per chain. How does that compare with other people's experience? |
Chain
Think you get what you pay for with chains,a thc or similar is cheap and probably won't last long,my 34l came with a d.i.d x ring on it and I've done 2 pretty long trips on it,some off road in catalunya and it's probably got a bit left in it just about...not a cheap chain but probably cheaper than having a ho chi min brand one snap and smash your engine case to bits...

hi there ive had my 1985 43f for about 4 years now and put a DID heavy duty o ring on it soon after i bought it , i recon its done 11-12000 miles and there is just a small amount of lift of the rear sprocket now so not bad going . i fitted JT sprockets wth 1 tooth down on the gearbox sprocket ( the bike came with this set up ) . zigzag

Thanks guys. I ought to add that the bike has had a Scottoiler fitted for the last 5k miles.
Chain is (I think) a Regina - not the best, but not a cheapie either. I would regard 5k miles per chain to be pretty poor, but I guess long-travel suspension and a chunky single motor take their toll. |
5k miles is too little, on a good chain, id say swap the front sprocket at around 5k, and go another 5k with that.
