ELECTRICAL FAULT
Hi folks,Im new to this board and would be grateful if anyone can help me. Ive got a bog standard 1994 XT 600E (the one before the last model change).I use it everyday to commute into London and usually it is extremely reliable (if a bit cold and wet lately!).Recently however it has developed an intermitant electrical fault which causes it to cut out.It seems to happen only when I put the bike into gear and start off - as soon as I let the clutch out and load the engine the motor dies and the red kill switch light comes on - last night it did this several times but then eventually went.On a previous occasion it was doing the same thing on and off but when I got home as I switched off the main fuse blew .I have checked all the electrical connections and all appears OK, the stand cut-out switch is also working OK. I wonder if it may be either the regulator or the coil playing up. Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks.

first short-circuit the wires to the side-stand switch. this is a known trouble-making part. if the switch is not the reason and the problem occurs again, contact me.
check also the neutral-switch. klaus@xt600.de |
Thanks Klaus - I'll check out the switches, excuse my ignorance but how should I
check the neutral switch? Thanks Ted |
no problem! the green neutral-light must be on if gears are in neutral position (and ignition is on). the switch connects the bulb and relais 20/ignition-circuit to ground. if there is no light either the switch or the bulb is not o.k.
