Engine change
Hello, I have a 1991 XT600, 2KF model. It's suffering vibration's between 3,000&3,500 rpm along with clutch issues and I was wondering if this frame accepts the later XT600E engine? Has anyone wise words? Thanks

The engine will physically fit no issues, your problem lies with the electrics.
A 2KF is CDI where the 600E (the 3TB engine) uses TCI so you would need to use the donor bikes wiring, TCI & ignition switch. The following pic is what should be on your bike now (a CDI) with wires hanging out the unit. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/dawAA...of8/s-l400.jpg The next picture in the ignition module from a 600E (TCI module) with no wires just sockets hence why you need the loom also. https://www.carmoelectronics.com.au/...2305-00-01.jpg Mezo. |
XT600 engine change
Well one positive seems the engine will fit. I was aware of difference's in regulator/ rectifier and bigger battery. I thought I'd cure 2 problems at same time, i. e in adverse terrain kicking can be an issue and putting original engine till I have time and space to strip and source parts. Here in central France spares are slow to come by and pricey. Sounds like I should investigate this vibration first. Thanks

Engine change
Hi svliker,
600E has electric start which will need realignment of sprockets, and there isn't a good place to put a bigger battery without creating more problems. Doubtless it can be done but won't be a 2kf anymore, not pretty, difficult to love...but maybe that's just me. Be well, p |
see where you are coming from pete, but seen bikes modified to e-start, specially if owner is less athletic than before, what's not to love? the little bulge on the left engine cover? :)
in this age of scramblers and trackers that would be very minor, then, with the new smaller lithium batteries, also much easier to locate. svliker, what parts you need that are slow/pricey? |
