Engine swap
 

Hi there, appologies I am a first time user and computer dinosaur, I have a Tenere 3AJ with a knackered engine, I have bought a replacement engine from a 2002 XT600 with electric start, it also has the loom, ecu, ic igniter,coil ect. engine complete with carb,starter motor,down pipe. it looks the same as mine except the clutch actuating arm is further over near the clutch. Unfortunately my 3AJ is in the far east, so before I send the engine out there I would like to know if it is a strait forward swap or have I wasted money.

I think it will fit in the frame ok
but you should get a clutch cable for the 2002 engine
Maybe bring a good flywhel puller so you can put the 3AJ stator and flywheel on the 2002 engine and still use the 3aj loom and cdi
Not sure where the oil tank on the 2002 model is maybe, check some parts diagam to see if oil lines are in the same place.
I have seen newer xt engine as in 3tb in 3aj and also 3tb in ttr frames but dont know if they just fit stright in.
Try and find out if the front sprocket will be inline with the rear or if you need some modifcation.

Like mentioned before the sprocket is the only prob you have - it's quite a big prob too.
The if frame is in the way and there's little you can do about it. Been there done that:(

Is the 02 engine wider than a 3Tb? I have seen a an XT fitted with a 660 raptor engine. I didn´t have a chanse to talk to the owner so I have no idea what he did to get it in there, but surely it has to be possible to get the 02 600 in to a 3AJ frame:confused1:
