Extra riding lights
Hi,
Using my XT in the winter here in Norway is getting hazardous as I cannot see the sides of the road in the dark and rain. Does anyone have any suggestions for extra lights? |
depending on the power available, the obvious is a modified car fog light, with the metal beam cutoff strip prised out ( better spread light pattern than a spot light. easy to fit 30w/55w/100w bulbs.
there are a huge number of high power LEDS, running upto 20w now, a bit of ingenuity could have these on the front of the bike. more expense but well worth it. maybe put one in another headlamp/spotlight unit. the dinky little reflectors that are sometimes available are very innefficient, i used 3 on my c90 due to the miniscule generator, but they weren't brilliant (literally) you can see the diecast box that also doubled as the led current driver heatsink. a 3x10w version would be far superior, mine were only 3W each. http://www.scarabis.com/Photos/AndyScand07/1240032.jpg |
For a single cylinder i dont know but on my honda deauville (vtwin 650) i got a set of Ring Angel Eyes like these
Ring Angel Eyes Halogen Driving Lamps.BN - eBay Lights Lighting Accessories, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 23-Sep-07 09:41:46 BST) They are very bright and are very good at getting you seen and seeing the road. They come with a wiring loom and everything all you need to do is take a feed from your lights and attach a few wires. The only problem is they are 4 inchs across the front face, and they are both 55w so 110w in total. I have been told you can get 35w bulbs for them but i dont really use them all the time only when it is really raining hard, or is getting dark. I dont know but you could possibly buy the angel eyes and only use one they are very powerful but are more like a stop lamp instead of a fog/spread of light lamp. |
Thanks for the ideas, I guess I have just got to go out and see what I can find out there!

Watch your power consuption though.
My Tenere had twin 55w bulbs in when I bought it which led to the battery being discharged after driving in the dark, even though the alternator is fine. Works fine with only one 55w bulb.
