fork oil xt600e
Hi,
I'm unable to find 10w fork oil for my 2001 XT600e. The shops only stock 5w. Does anybody have any tips / advise on using 5w instead of 10w? Thanks |
It would help if you put your location in your profile. I could say that Halfords in the UK stock 10W fork oil and it's easily available, but you could be on the other side of the world :)
But, if you are in the UK - Halfords. |
I use cheap 10w40 motoroil and cant tell a difference, waiting to be flamed, haha :ban:
Which shops do you visit? ALmost every bike dealer here in Denmark carries both 2,5w 5w 10w and 20w, and sometimes stuff in between aswell. |
Mine have Automatic Transmission Fluid in them.

Thanks for the replies.
I put the 5w oil in and reduced the air gap at the top of the forks to 100mm from the recommended 155mm. Let's see how that works. |
Dubai? That settles it. 3400 miles is too far to go for fork oil, even 10W.:D
|
Buy me a ticket to Dubai and I'll bring you the fork oil! LOol :oops2:
Still I have to ask...The front XT suspension is too light already.. why do you want to put an even lighter oil? :confused1: Vando beer |

5w oil is to light, and 100mm airgap is too little imo. I guees its not too bad for street riding, but you really need stiffer springs if you reduce airgap to make the forks stiffer. Im at 175mm with stiffer springs. |
I have converted my 86 xt to super moto trim,I am 15 1/2 stone and I use 578mls of 15w fork oil, air pressure at 15.5, standard springs and for me and its is fine.
