Frame paint
Does anyone know where I can get paint to match the frame on my year-old XT?It dosnt seem particularly thick and has worn through in a couple of places.I`ve seen someone advertising "any bike colour" in an aerosol so hopefully even the code number will help. Thanks

Try Hammerite.

Thanks Fred but I`ll try to get the right colour before resorting to Hammerite.I dont know about previous models but the latest one has a light matt-grey frame,if it had been the usual black I`d have been to Halfords by now.

Hi - if you want an exact colour match try RS Bike Paints. I don't know their number but they advertise in the centre section of Motor Cycle News every week. They have thousands of colour codes and can mix you what you need.

Not exactly an answer to your question, but if you ever do a complete bike tear-down / build-up then I would powder coat the frame and all the essential hardware. That’s what I did with my 55W. Looks great, handles abuse much better and last longer than traditional paints. I had my Jeeps front bumper, winch mounts and winch powder coated for a while now and it stood the test of time after many miles in the Sahara, and it still looks great. Can’t say the same for the Jeep’s body paint though …..
Downsides? Color selection isn’t as extensive as regular paints and harder to touch up. ------------------ A.B. OasisPhoto.com – Images from the Magical Sahara. ShortWheelbase.com – Jeep preparations. |
