Fuel dramas

Hey everybody, new to this forum and hope somebody can give me some advice. I have a 1996 Yamaha YZF1000R that used to run like a dream until sitting in storage for a few months. Now whenever i turn the ignition on and the fuel pump builds up pressure fuel is pumped at a great rate out of two hoses that lead down from the front of the carby bank and onto the top of the crankcase where it then proceeds to dribble onto the ground. when the fuel pump finally stops pressurising the flow stops. However when the engine is running the fuel pumps out constantly and it runs like a hairy goat! but if I turn the fuel tap off once the bowls are full it runs fine. Not Knowing much about these carbs I was hoping that someone may be able to shed some light on the situation so I can start riding my pride and joy, instead of just being frustrated with it. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. CHEERS.

Problem solved

Who would have thought these thoroughbred race machines would be so simple in design. Solved the problem in an hour by pulling the carbs off and dismantling them to come accross a needle that had jumped off its locator. Don't know how this would have happened, but a simple fix in the end. Bike is now running like a dream again and I am ecstatic. Strapping the stack hat on and hitting the road right now. Catch youz later.:clap::thumbup1:
