Funky electrics on my XTZ 660
I did some measuring on my bike with engine running and found that the low beam voltage fluctuates between 9-11 volts (very rapid fluctuation, so it's not really visible to the eye when you look at the light). The battery measures a fairly steady 12.3 volts.
Where do I start to look to debug this? I have a standard fluke for measuring. |
Multimeters can give you very misleading readings.
Unless you know what you are looking for you will be baffled by what you find, I know I'm an electrician... |
Hi,
normaly with running engine you should read like up to 14,3 Volt on the XTZ 660. How old is your bike the fist models had a small rectifier with 4 kables connectet to them, they like to fail. The newer ones have a bigger rectifier they normaly dont give any trouble there are 5 or 6 cables connectet to the rectifier. :funmeteryes: regards Thomas |
It seems to have the newer rectifier with 5+ cables and fins. The bike is from 1994 with round headlights. The battery measures 12.3 volts, regardless if the bike is running or not.
