Handlebar grips
 

Can anyone tell me the size of the 4PT handlebars, are they 7/8"?

I need new grips and have seen some that fit that size on Ebay.

Also has anyone tried riding without the bar end weights on, what's the difference?

I ask because i would need to cut the end of the grips off to refit the bar end weights.

Yes they are, or 22mm in metric. Why not go the whole hog and get Renthals and Oxford heated grips while you're at it? No need for the new grips then. I find my Renthals are fine without the bar end weights and the heated gripsare stonkingly wonderful in winter.

I used these grips on my XT600E 2001 (4pt) and they fitted, still can use the end bar weights:

Just note the left one is a different size then the right one, and use compressed air to slide off the old ones and to get on the new ones.

I also fitted a symtec heater under those pro grips and its almost too hot on the highest setting.. the pro grip are quite thin and nice.

The only problem with the heated grips are, where to mount the switch? Mines just hanging in there now above the speedometer.

I have to say I have not felt the need for heated grips even in Winter.

I have a blue bike and like the look of these grips.

Kentbiker, how much would Renthal handlebars sell for?
I assume there is one type for road bikes and another for trail bikes?

Saw these on ebay but there is no crossbar so guess it's for a road bike.

That handlebar is actually for ATV's (quads)....

As for the handlebar grips I'm thinking of sticking to the normal Progrips OR just for show-.... getting something like one of these:

I think the Yamaha ones in blue would look good Vando but I have not seen those on ebay or any bike shop so far, will have a search.

Found some but they are not dark enough blue.

Definately go Renthal. The stock bars are made from old cheese and will bend in a strong wind. I find gold ones go particularly well with a blue XT...

It looks like that those on the picture you posted must've been used alot already, perhaps that's why they have that faded blue?

I like the dark blue from the "Honda" grips...

If new they look the same I just might buy a pair..
They're expensive tho...around 20euros plus shipping

I don't need them now, I ordered the blueflame ones earlier today to go with my blueflame zorst.

The blue in them is just what I am looking for, the Honda ones look good too, the last ones you posted look lighter than the Honda ones but darker then the Yamaha ones I found this morning.

I'm thinking of getting my frame powdercoated white this winter.

So will the Renthal Dakar high bars go straight on no probs (be able to fit all the bits and pieces back on)? I am also looking at adding some risers as I am pretty tall (aroun 190cm)

I am in two minds about spending too much money on the XT. It is my first dual sport so I am using it just to practice and get the feel of things so I can get a better idea of my riding style for my first "proper" DS bike. Still, fixing up your bike is part of that and it will help my form if my bike is set up properly . . .

if they're 7/8" bars, everything will indeed fit on them ok. if they're taller you'll likely need longer wires/lines to connect everything.

But you're right, unless you like the way your bike is set up, you simply wont want to ride it. I feel like a poorly set up, and ill suited bike is just not good for a long term dual sport ride.
