hi there people, im changing out the stearing head bearings on my bike and i was wondering how to change out the old races, do i tap them out with a hammer or is there a more gracefull way of doing it... thanks lads, phil.

You're on the right track. Even the workshop manual says to use a long rod as a punch and hit them out with a hammer. Come to think of it, theres probably no other way to get them out. You won't be using them again, so it doesn't matter if you damage them. Make sure you wear safety glasses, as I have seen them shatter before.
