HELP... ANOTHER Random XT600E starting Problem
Hi... I just got stuck in the middle of nowhere during a ride... i had ridden for about 3 hours and stopped for a piss, then when i tried to restart the bike... you guessed it... nothing!
I had some tools on me so i started ripping it apart and this is what is happening... I turn the ignition key and get ignition lights... press the start button and the negative terminal of the batt sparks one... i get no cranking of the starter motor and the ignition lights all go out for about 5 mins then come back on??? Ive just been towed home (thank god for breakdown cover!) and my battery charger tells me the battery is fully charged! Ive had a good search through this forum and can only find help about the issue with the sticky starter so any help would be HUGELY appreciated as me XT is my only form of transport! Also im off to Japan on it next year and this is doing nothing for my confidence!!! thanks all... kind regards, Andy |
Sounds like its a "short" somewhere??????
No easy answer if thats the problem - a case of going thru it bit by bit !!!! Make sure the battery terminals & leads are all clean & secure! |
Sounds simple, but your symptoms indicate a loose/faulty batt neg terminal.

so trying another battery might work?
humm problem is i only have a car battery spare... if u hook this up will it cause any damage as its bigger and more powerful or is it ok just for a quick test??? Ive walked to work today for the first time and i hate it already so im hoping to god its just the battery! thanks for your help guys any more sugestions would be more than helpful cheers andy |
i'd say your battery ok think as the guys are saying its a loose or bad connection somewhere.i've an xt 600 tenere an have often connected to a running car's battery to start it and no problems, but doesn't sound like thats your problem.

Hi,
I would try to check the fuse, if it's the tube kind the clamp holding it can get loose you may have to tighten it, check also the + connection from the starter relay , I found they are more exposed to spray form the front wheel. I had the same problem at both spot with the same comsequence..so I just cut an old bicycle tube around both to protecm them from rusting!! Hope this help gwel |
