help with soft luggage rack

Hi , can anyone help as im trying to build a rack for my xt 600e to support my oxford sports bags and to keep them off the exhaust, im planning doing plenty of off road on my travels so i guess the bags will need some good support. Ive seen a few threads about this but cant pick up any pictures or patterns that my mate whos a good welder could maybe copy. if anyone out there can help that would be great!
cheers Drew

luggage rack

Drew,

You should buy my rack off me, being 15mm its perfect for soft luggage. I ended up making a rack for my 3AJ and boxes using a Super Ten rack as a starting point. Spent hours on it and well, its bloody strong but still looks home made....

If your set on building your own then I'll measure up mine this week and let you know.....

cheers
Matt

Drew,

I am not a good welder but still managed to make 2 luggage racks for Oxford Sports bags. One for an XT 600 E and one for a 3 AJ. Both survived extensive hammering on tours. They cost about $30 US in 4mm x 12mm flat steel bars and a day or so to make.

Attatching to the frame by the indicators, the bolts about 20cm further up I think and the passenger footpegs.

A kind of top rack and two side bars running just underneath the side panels was the result. Flexible enough to take the knocks and rigid enough to last the course. And easily repairable - if you need to. And Cheap.

Sorry no pics as I don't have the bike any more.

Cheers

George.

I've got a rack for an XT600, came off an 86 43F (I'm told)...just the job if your welding/pipe bending doesn't work out!

See here for details: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MESE%3AIT&rd=1

Or make me an offer I cant refuse!
