Help! - Yamaha Tenere (3AJ) engine sound
Hi,
I have just bought my first Tenere, and I love it! As this is my first one, could you please listen to its engine sound and tell your opinion about it? Unfortunately I have no experiences about the sound of a Tenere but I found it a bit knocky. Is something wrong, or is this 'normal'? If there is a problem, what should it be? :helpsmilie: The video has been shoted after a cold start. Thanks a lot! |

Sounds a bit like the lovechild of pistonslap and loose valves. :D
Check the valveclearences, its pretty easy. |
I agree, sounds like valve clatter. Adjustment not hard, just fiddly. When you pull the "feeler gauge" thru the gap it should have some resistance. The trick is to be able to tighten the jam nut and not alter the clearance. I made a tool from a piece of brass tubing that fit over the square adjustment screw, wrapped the top of the brass tube with tape to make it easier to hold while tightening the jam nut. Recheck the clearance after tightening the jam nut and if not perfect do it again.
I just watch the rocker arm and when it is up I adjust that one.?c?:welcome: |
Üdvözöljük Erdei, úgy hangzik, mint a szelephézagot nekem.
Tudta Ön, lovagolni ezt a csoportot? Mezo. |
That sounds way more than valves . Take your sparkplug out , turn the motor over by hand with a socket on the flywheel nut. Using something like a 3/8 dowel(or for now a drinking straw) and spin the motor over till the piston comes to TDC the starts to go back down. Make sure that the piston has moved some downward. Now with a dowel push down on the piston to see if it'll move any little bit without the crank turning.

Thanks!
Thank you all for your replies and support!
I will check the valve clearance first and see if the noise is gone or not. @Mezo: As this is my first Tenere I will get her in shape till spring and I am going to get in touch with the hungarian Tenere Club. It's their video you have posted. :) Hopefully I will be participating in the next one. :mchappy: |
