High revving on tickover

Hi All,
Well, just picked up my Tenere
80 odd mile ride home, mixture of some motorway, before reducing that to A roads before reducing that to proper tiny jobbies; rear Michelin Enduro tyre, noisy but grippy.
Tickover was around 12-1400 rpm.
Once fully warm, was around 2300 rpm!!
Okay, experience tells me to look at air leaks, valves etc.
As its my first Tenere, anything more specific?

No I'm not sure what model I have....:innocent:
Advertised as an 1988, but could be a 87.... 1VJ??? 3AJ???

Any input appreciated.
Cheers
John

Hi, what do you mean by this tickover? Do you have problems with running the engine or?

Wind out your idle screw a little. :smartass:

Does it need the choke to start and run when cold ??

When it's cold, it should need the choke to run.

If a 600cc aircooled single idles at 1200 without choke, then it's running way too rich on the pilot circuit.

Thanks guys.
Bear in mind today is the first day and it definitely needs a clutch!
When I test rode it, initially it needed a little choke to start. Once running, choke off, rode round the block, tickover somewhere between 1000 and 1400 rpm.
Started the ride home. Once covered at least ten miles, tickover is up to over 2000.
So, by the time I get home, 80 miles later, we're looking at approaching 2200 to 2500 rpm!!

I can certainly tell you there's a carb leak, looks like bowl, so will be pulling them off; carbs that is!
