How to repair split steel tank?

Hi all

I have two 3AJ tanks - a scratched one I was going to keep for touring, and a nicely painted one that I was going to flog to help pay for said touring.

The nicely painted one has developed a leak from the seam near the top fork yokes. Fuel is coming out of the seam and is also welling up through the paint (!) about 1cm from the seam.

I was going to:
- clean off the paint
- lay down a layer of JB Weld

However this is going to look really ugly. I'd like to use fibreglass but it won't stand up to petrol.

Any ideas other than forking out more than the tank is worth for a professional repair? Anyone in the UK want a slightly dodgy tank?

I once repaired a small leak in a tank with Fingerglue [cyano-acrylate 2-second glue].
I would try the thicker jelly version, and put a small piece of thin transparent plastic [the type that cookies are packed in] on top.

Clean very well the tank with water and detergent (rinse & flush 10 times) then take the tank to a radiator specialist/welder , normally they are able to weld and fix it very fast and cheap (it's easy work respect the radiators..)
