I'm in love with my new tyres!

3 Months ago I fitted Michelin Sirac's to my XT600E (2000). Wow what a brilliant idea, they are superb compared to the Trail Wings that were fitted on the bike when I got it. Unlike the Trail Wings they stick to tarmac consistently well. Iron manhole covers are no longer cause for concern as the Sirac's don't slip sidewards like the Trail Wings did. After about 3 miles they reach their optimum working temperature and then stick to the road like glue.

I don't know how long they will last but I can certainly recommend them to other forum users looking for a set of good "Adventure/allround type tyres for their venerable XT's.

I would imagine they are designed to be used 70% on the road and 30% on dirt tracks (not heavy mud).

I never have used this tyre, but on the end of this year, I'll put on my bike to go at Atacama's Desert and Paso de Sico.
I wish I've to change then to go from Cuzco to Assis Brasil, because the road is very dirt on summer (I thing).
Now I'm using the Anakee model, but, I't horryble on dirt roads. :thumbdown:

I agree! I've used a rear Michelin Sirac on my other bike...a yamaha dt125r (2002) and it had excellent grip on tarmac especially on curves!!! when curving I almost fell several times because the bike touched the ground with the passenger footpegs and mine to..... AND it lasted longer than any other tire I had used before and after!!

Haven't tried them on my XT600E yet tho... :thumbup1:

And I love my T63's!

A knobbly, that's not a full on, fall apart on the road knobbly, but keeps me wheel side down, 70% off road, 30% on. (And I know were I really need the grip!)

How are these SIracs in the wet?
 

Hi - have been recommended these as mostly road tyres for my KLX400R. I live in Western Australia - we don't have rain for most of the time, buit when it does rain, it can be pretty full-on. I'm not interested in them for off-road use as I have a set of wheels with MT21s for that. How do the Siracs stick to the road in the wet? Thanks, Michael

:thumbup1: I gotta agree! The Sirac's do a top job. I've been very impressed with them in the wet too (on an xt660r...in London, yep rainy!). I am comparing them to previous bridgestone types that I have also tried - which were terribly all over the place.

on a side note...Currently I am using Trelleborgs - for a winter run through Scandinavia, they did a brilliant job on icy roads, but will be fitting new Sirac's when I get back cause they are the beez neez!

I have Michelin Sirac on my XT ..good for the road,good for soft off road,but not good for wet grass or mud.

Thet Siracs are one of the OE tyres on the XT660Z Tenere, People do like them....

I used some Siracs on my KLR. They're fine for pavement wet or dry considering they are also tolerable for gravel or good dirt, and they last a long time. However they're not what I'd go searching for when planning rides in the high Andes or on potentially muddy jungle roads or wherever there might be a lot of loose gravel or sand. If that's where you're going, you might want to look for a more aggressive tire.

I'll say I also found the Siracs fairly expensive, but that was perhaps because I bought them in Brazil, where everything is expensive.

How long do they last? Not as long as they should.

I've had a few pairs of these on an XT660R and to be honest everything I have experienced is in the previous posts in one form or other.

The sirac is a good tyre. It gets ok mileage, is stable on the road, trustworthy in wet/frosty London commuting and that's about it. They are slightly more expensive than the competition (from what I remember) and terribly average offroad (no sorry, but I would not even go there).

To put it in context though, this is only relevant because of the fact I tried them on Yamaha 600 which I rode for two years but could never come to 'love' (if you know what I mean).

Yes, I think that these knobbly tires are the best for an on/off road ever, near a 60/40 mix.

Surprisingly for a knobbly tire they stick to the road like glue, in all weather, corner with more enough confidence than my skill level and they wear really well and the pricing is acceptable - about 100 euro for a set.

The only down side is a little road noise. But that is a small price to pay for such good on road and acceptable off road performance.

Currently they've done about 7,000Km and are still going strong, probably about another 3-4,000Km left in them.

I have no problem in recommending them to anyone.
