Installing Cartridge Emulator in XT600
 

Has anyone installed a set of Race Tech Gold fork emulators in a middle 80's XT600? I inquired on their website and they responded I need to send them dimensions of certain parts of the internals. Surely someone has a set and could shed light on what part number will work? I hate to tear down the forks and wait and wait. I will if I have to. After last months ride in Colorado, I can see the need for better forks, the Cartridge emulators seem to be an easier way to get a less harsh ride. I know, not as plush as USD forks, but so much easier to get done.

Did you ever figure out if there are any cartridge emulators for the xt600? I’m trying to figure out a proper suspension set up for my 84

Hi, Gold Valve emulator do fit as I have some in my '86 Tenere. I had them fitted at a suspension shop so I don't know the exact model but the bloke did drill out/enlarge the hole in the damper rod and had to turn up a simple adapter out of alloy to fit them. Hope you find encouragement from this.

saw on ebay a kit form oemcycles that should fit a tt600 from same vintage


not rocket science to make a steeped adapter even from nylon to adapt it once you have it hand. just measure the spring OD and tell them, no need to take the fork apart

Strange thinking? The primary goal is to improve the front fork perfrormance. One pay for race tech gold valves but decide to do half of the installation job (i.e. not drilling the damper rod and as a consequence have reduced performance)???

read my post again, I meant in order to just take the measurement of the spring diameter and have an idea which one to order, the guy did not want to have to wait with the fork dismantled till he gets the parts...

You will need the Race tech FEGV S4101 or FEGV 4101 emulators. I have the S4101. I am using these in my 91 XT600 3TB but the damper rods and internal dimensions are identical to mid 80's forks. Think these same emualtors are also used in xt660z forks too! They are a cupped type and the emulator just drops straight in with no adapter. Only mod needed is to drill out existing damper rod holes to 8mm. Have a total of 6 x 8mm holes in damper rod now.

The S4101 has 2 holes drilled in the check plate and the 4101 has 4 holes drilled in the check plate. This affects the compression damping on the small hits that arent enough to compress the main emulator spring.The 4 hole version likely gives a softer ride? Thought I would start with the S4101 as you can drill extra holes later easily if required but I am happy with the current setup.

The rebound is adjusted using various weight fork oils,. My current setup after a some experimentation am now running 15W fork oil. Have 2 turns of preload on the emulator spring which adjusts the compression setting. Is a blue 40lb spring that comes with these. Am using Wilbers promoto springs. Fork oil airgap is the recommended 180mm for these springs. Forks are working way better than they ever did stock on rough/ corrugated tracks/ roads.

Nic, those in your link are per-load adjusters, not cartridge emulators that do something totally different.....

well, the bike is not mut changed since i built it some 7 years ago.... last winter i did some suspension work in the front which i want to test.



anyway, i am planning to do a supermoto day with it at castelletto di branduzzo track in the coming weeks, so will ask somebody to shoot me while while im out there on track.... dont have a gopro or anything like that

Hi thumpthump...Im about 95kg with gear on and I have an acerbis 23L tank and set up my front sag and settings with tank fairly full and use bike in mostly hot conditions. If I was using bike in cool conditions I would try 10W fork oil as the 15 may possibly be too thick/ too slow rebound I think I saw somewhere that racetech recommended 10W as standard oil?
