Is this XT600 worth 1k stlg?
Dear experts
as a XT600 newbie I'm looking for advice about a bike I'm thinking of buying: 1995, 30,000 miles and v. good condition. price - £1000 does it sound like a reasonable deal? Mileage not too high? Thanks, Andrew |
You should probably re-post this over on the Yamaha forum here on the HUBB.

As a Yamaha dealer and previous owner of 2 XT600Es, Id say potentially NO !!
I paid £1700 for a MINT condition 2003 XT600E with 3000 miles on it.. YOU work it out... 30,000 miles and 14 years old, he wants to be accepting 800 quid as your going to have to be potentially doing £200 quids worth of work on it AT LEAST ! (thats unless hes already done it).. If its well maintained and hes done the revevant servicing and maintenance (and can prove it) then yes, i'd pay £1000. At that mileage, your looking at how well the top end has been looked after. The electrical organs of the bike are going to be wearing out (reg/rect) as are all the bearings, rear shock, linkage bushes, head bearings, wheel bearings, rotting rims as well as 30,000 miles worth of electical bodging, fetling and other adjustments... buying an "Old nail" is always a lottery.... Even for me (Trained & qualified tenhnician and work in Motorcycle sales) Any photos, info ??????????????? PM if you want further advice. |
No its too expensive , I paid just over £1000 for my 1997 XT 600E it included:
Bash plate uprated rear spring (got the standard one too). Upgraded fork springs (got the old ones too) renthal bars original and smaller indicators 23 litre acerbis tank Acerbis frame guards Acerbis frame protectors 7 different sprockets Some acerbis hand guards Oil cooler fitted A ton of spare spokes 2 spare heavy duty inner tubes a Big fat XT600E manual 2 Spare clutch levers 2 Spare brake levers A spare clutch assembly 6 months tax 2 months MOT Unrun in tyres two sets of wheels a ratty old OEM pair and some alloy ones |
I'd add XT600s have a 5th gear pitting problem too which means I'd be wary of one thats done 30K , but to Ted XT600Es appear to be fairly rare (maybe as they make great commuters) in that ebaying for months there are many very new ones (for far too much money ie £2700ish (when a new OTR one used to be £3200).
