Loose baffles in XT600 Tenere tank
Had a minor disembarkation yesterday, big dent in tank and knocked some baffles loose, which are very noisy.
Would anyone know if anything can be done to re-fix the baffles? |
Ive got a 34L tank beside me with what sounds like loose baffles as well, from discussions with the lads i think its a cut it open job.

If it was me i'd put up with it, or replace the tank. But thanks just me, especialy when you consider the potential cost. Unless its something your confident doing yourself.
|
Replacing the tank was my first thought but haven't been able to find one anywhere so far.
If I end up having to try the cut option, any suggestions as to where I should cut, I can see some baffles are fixed to the bottom but not sure about anywhere else. |
The baffles are spot welded in,mine made a horrendous metallic rattling noise whilst half way through France last year, and I thought oh shit from motor...then it became apparent it was in tank and more prominent as fuel got down a little, never does it with a lot of juice in tank..
I've levered on of the baffles slightly one way and it seems to have reduced it. If your bothered by and a little brave, wash tank thoroughly with boiling water and washing powder pretty thoroughly and try and get mig welder in and tack it back...I'd be inclined to flash a blow torch across top prior to actually looking in it with welder. I repaired an LC tank recently and didn't get any form of explosion, but I done a Suzuki rl tank last year that flushed with washing up liquid and hot water and got a bit of an initial explosion to start with... I don't think I'd want to cut open a good tank for sake of a raptly baffle.. |
I've been doing a bit more checking and the baffle on the left side was almost completely off and it didn't take much to get it out completely, it's a lot better now but it sounds like there are more bits loose towards the back of the tank but I'm inclined to agree that it's not worth cutting open and live with it.
An alternative I wondered about would be to put a standard tank on but I suspect this wouldn't be straight forward, anyone know what's involved? |
Tanks do come up now & again, what country are you in?

England.

Ah OK, i know Fred on our forum had a few 34L tanks, he`s in Germany & that`s always a good place to find some ebay.de
I will PM him & see if he has sold all of these tanks he had, i know for sure he has sold one to a forum member but he may still have some left? http://s1.directupload.net/images/110408/i92w6cwz.jpg Heres a few of my 34L tanks, and no there not for sale. http://i916.photobucket.com/albums/a...D/Tentere9.jpg Mezo. |
Got the elusive left hand side panel with any of that lot mezzo??....ha ha...

Also plastics in general for the Tenere`s 34L, 1VJ & 3AJ. Wiring looms is another one that needs sorting, nobody is making them either. Mezo. |
If you were making panels for the 3TB, I'd be interested.
And a wiring loom, for that matter :) |
Im sure that lot is still available isn't it?
The Tenere stuff is obsolete now & hard to find good used parts. Back to the tank, got a reply from Fred & he`s keeping hold of them, he also said all his baffles have come slightly loose as well, as is one of mine. Im going to cut mine open & enlarge it anyhow, just for a project. Mezo. |
