Low Rpm knocking
 

Hello xt land, I've noticed a knocking on the top end when pulling low rpms in gear, but no knocking when at idle or at over 2000 rpm while under power.Just starting out at a low speed and Rpm, Any thoughts on this? Mike

How old and how many K's?

1989 43f with 13000 kms, doesn't knock at idle or revving the motor, just when pulling away at low rpms.It doesn't smoke or use oil. Mike

Sounds like low octane gas mostly.

I'll add some octane boost, thanks. Of course being anal retentive I will do a compression test, adjust valves if needed and then another compression test if valves needed adjustment. thanks Mike

You still have those keihins on her? I don't know if a skirt knock would only do it when under load or not. I would also inspect for any sort of loose exhaust or rubbing/hitting somewhere, those have a tendency to make weird knocks that you'd swear are inside the motor. But don't ignore it like some would, if that nut would be loose as Mezo points out, it'll make a mess out of things. Just throwing out other thoughts

say hey, thanks for the replies...I've read quite a bit about the counterbalance nut and key way lately, like the doohickey on the KLR. Yes JJ Keihins are there to stay. Kind of a wash though, detuned to alleviate any stumbling. When I get my hard earned tax refund I'll buff up the motor, and get more use of the Keihins. Mike
