on a recent outback adventure my bike (96 xtz660) became desperately low on engine oil, i used the only oil available 5w/40 synthetic oil.i am curious to know what happens when synthetic and standard engine oils are mixed...? thanks, phil.

One of the requirements of SAE oil specs is that same classification oils (Eg Sg and SG) MUST be able to mix without problems ...even with different gradations!

i was riding around the blue mountains.. out to a very remote gold minning town called yerranderie, about 300ks of great dirt roads....i dont know how i lost so much oil... but i made it home.it was a beautiful ride.

Hi,
XTZ 660 are well known oil consumption bike! Try to use shyntetic blend or even mineral oil with gradation 15W-50, 20W-50, or so, but not less than 10W. That would rapidly decrease oil consumption. And always check oil with warm engine after at least, 20 km of ride!!! AnteK |
