My cam doesn't have the tach drive pickup bar
Hi again,
Progress....replaced the head now, but noticed my new, undamaged cam doesn't have the "bar" that drives the tachometer unit. New vs Old: https://i.imgur.com/0UCDe9a.jpg I'm assuming some older models used another method for RPM pickup, since I doubt it came lose. Head is from a 2KF however... Did anyone press out/in this little bar and replace it to another cam? Or is it easier to swap to the older pickup system, whatever that is? Thanks |
Hmm... even the 1984 one has a bar. What's going on.
https://i.imgur.com/OihAB08.png edit: So I guess I have a 3TB camshaft - or at least from one that doesn't have a tachometer? Pretty surprised they would go and not install the spline/bar and have two seperate products... Is it press fitted? |
Ive never seen a cam without the pin. My 3TB cams have it. I have a spare cam from a 2003 TTR600 and it also has the pin. Camshaft part number prefix of 1JK. None of which had tachos. Only ever been the one cable drive tacho system on all the 600 derivatives. You may have an early TT600 cam as they had a different part number prefix of 34K as compared to the XT cams of the time that had tachos with 43F prefix on the camshaft number

 https://www.ebay.com/itm/1983-86-84-...AAAOSwdNZc7-vW Same productnr as the 1983 TT600 which is the first TT600. Starting to think mine got removed/lost or something? No idea how or why though.... |
Well, I decided to just try and remove the pin from the old camshaft and replace it onto my new one .
Started off with a center punch, and to my surprise it started moving quite easily. So I cut off the end of a nail to guide it all the way through: https://i.imgur.com/Qncs1IS.jpg Pretty easy, https://i.imgur.com/Dirs9ZV.jpg Put the pin in the fridge and applied some heat to the crankshaft just to be sure. End result: https://i.imgur.com/ch94zkj.jpg https://i.imgur.com/S0NeATT.jpg Hopefully it will stay but I think it will be fine bier |
