New to Forum and an 86 XT600
 

Hi Folks
Just thought I would drop down a line and say hello as I have just regestered to this forum. I have just purchased an old 86 XT600 to play around with. I have to tell you to start I just sold my 90 DR650 to buy it and I am already impressed with how easy this thing starts. It almost always starts first kick as opposed to the DR, it started almost always on the 20th kick and made a point of trying to break my ankle in the process.
I am hoping to learn somethings from the experience of the owners here and appriciate all input you have. I guess I would like to start by asking if there are any weak points on this bike I should be looking out for, or that I should be paying more attention to?

From personal experience the gearboxes seem to suffer from wear in the early models - I've had 2 that have given me problems.
Apart from that they are pretty tough bikes - just look after your engine oil and don't ride it like a lunatic!!!
