It looks a nice bike, if they can keep the price down.
It will need one hell of a bash plate to keep those exhausts intact.
I think I will be keeping my current XT though. I just don't trust liquid cooled bikes. One more thing to go wrong and I can live without the modest increase in power.
All the best to you all out there.

It thought so too but maybe the exhaust pipes are strong enough to protect the engine!
I have learnt to trust a liquid cooled bike for the last 10 years now, and I must say it's definitely better for the engine. I've opened it a few years ago at 50.000 kms. because the former owner had done some stupid things during the first 10.000 kms., and the internals looked very well compared to an air cooled engine.

Has anyone heard if the XT660R will be available in the USA? I am very interested in it. It is true that with an air cooled motor you don't have to worry about leaking hoses or radiators, however the selection of air cooled motorcycles is getting pretty slim. The Yamaha XTZ motor is superb, I have 46,000 MILES on mine without any problems, not even an oil leak. How long does an air cooled XT motor last before it needs some attention?

The new yamaha XT660R will cost 6495eur and the supermotard version will cost 6850eur. They will be available february 2004. These are official 'indications' from yamaha, little fluctuations possible. Bashplate and other accessories will be available. New TT600RE is worth a close look too

Just to add on, present air cooled XT600E goes out of production range, so if you are aircooling lover, now is last chanse!

The new TT600RE (5600Eur)is also air cooled and replaces in fact the low budget XT600E. XT660R is completely new. Choosing won't get easier.

Do you know when will the current XT going to be taken out of range?

motortt 21 Sep 2003 21:06

They don't produce them anymore. Some dealers or distributors might have some in stock but these are the very last.
