Newbie to forum
I do not have a yamaha cycle but a discontinued LIFAN C25 cycle. This bike is a clone of the Yamaha Virago XV250 in many respects.
I recently rebuilt the carb and the fuel bowl gasket from yamaha fit perfectly. There was a lot of yellow/greenish crud inside the fuel bowl. I used GUMOUT to clean out every hole I could find. I did not make an attempt to take out the needle valve seat as the brass set screw wouldn't budge and I didn't want to break it off. Same was with the primary jet, wouldn't move so I sprayed both jets thoroughly. The carb is a makuni with the numbers 25 88 L657 imprinted on the side of the bottom casting. Not withstanding and looking for trouble I did not make any adjustments to any screws except the throttle screw. I didn't touch the fuel or air screws, but I feel I need to eventually. Another reason why I'm in this forum. I bought this bike mainly because of the price, and the "owner" a third party said it ran. He tried starting it on the trailer and it did run but not for an extended period. When I got it home I started to find little problems which got bigger. I'll relate that at a later time. |
dried out gas will cause a lot of running issues, wouldn't doubt it if you had to go back in a clean the carb some more, the pilot circuit is usually the hardest to clear up.

More stuff
More on this bike....
The kill switch wires came off the switch and were just junpered together and taped up and shove4d back in the housing. The clutch bypass pulled right out of the housing, its nylon piece and contacts fell right out. Maybe I'll just tape those up. Or make up a mini toggle switch for it and enclose it in the choke/clutch housing if I got the room. Brake shoes are in good shape. Got about 3/16" of material on the shoes. The brake foot lever looked like it was in a bad accident. It was extremely bent at the first bend. You had to pick your right shoe toe up at least 6 inches to touch the pad. So, I heated it up and bent it back to almost horizontal. I think I can take up the slack and make it operable again. Next to do are the foot pegs. Front two leave much to be desired, may replace both of them. Back pegs, one is missing. Kick stand is very loose. Will investigate it. Had to replace the back tire. Was no tread to speak of where the rubber meets the road. $85 bucks! Sprocket to rear tire transfer mechanism is interesting - 8 rubber pucks. |
Are you saying you paid $85 for this bike? I think you got ripped off.
