No spark
 
This is the 2nd xt 600 Ive had and the 1st I got brand new in 89 and my 2nd was in 2000. both were 89 models.Both for no good reason just up and die (no spark).. I replaced everything with a budys bike but stator, no help so I deducted bad stator..never repaced stator becauce bike got riped off..no more headachs 600...then i get #2 xt a few years later (used) real clean low miles .. and bike ran great.I ride it hard .but take good care of it..(I raced cross country B class) So i like to go fast off road,pull long ass wheelies, bla bla bla... the other day Im rideing down the freeway 65 mph and she just died. about 8 hrs of looking a conections and everything no spark. Im at the point of thinking xt 600 are CRAP....any thoughts?

Probably no consolation to you, but mine won't go either!! (see my thread about poor/difficult starting, which has now become no starting).

More usefully, if you read back in this forum you will find lots of previous threads about both the electrics and the fuel supply - I have been concentrating on the threads about the TTR/TTRE and good info is certainly in there.

thoughts.. yer ! Check the spark plug, HT leads and work your way back from there.

I have some extra parts to check with. Coil,plug, and I even have a extra stator and cdi not sure they are good cuase i swapped them out and no spark. the cdi I swapped out a while back and I think it was good.. Is there a way to test cdi and how do you test stator? also could I be over looking the rectafirer ? does it figure in the spark?

Rectifier changes AC-DC to operate the coil so yer it could be that...

Have you got a multimeter ?.. You can check the output from the stator

I would check all the contacts first and also for bad earthing.

Dont forget to check side stand switch and if you have a switch on the clutch also netural wire is not broken.
I think if the neutral wire breaks or switch is faulty starter wont turn engine over.
