No spark
Now that I've recovered the bike after it was stolen it won't start. This was traced to there being a total lack of a spark. I've tried an old spark plug instead, I've even bought a second hand CDI and I've done a continuity check on the coil (CDI side). I've put a digital multi meter on the LV terminals of the coil to look for a flicker of volts and there's nothing.
I'm running out of things to try, ideas anyone? |
What Xt is it ?
Battery ?? Kick only ? |
Read me
Hi Alex,
I have a similar problem on another thread - no spark. I have just been reading this "similar thread" so maybe it is of some use to you:- http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...-my-84-a-26020 As for me, I'm still scratching my head about all this electronic stuff!! Cheers, Dave (I won't say "good luck" 'cos we both need a bit more than that!!!) |
Oops, brain fade. It's an '89 3AJ XT600 Tenere.

You you checked the plug cap and HT lead for continuity ? Looks like your need to check all your wiring first for simple lose connections and earths then take a look at your genny. |
Battery only. It worked fine before, then it was hotwired and stolen but abandonded a couple of miles away. Now when it's come back there's no spark. I'm trying to think of something that could have been broken by the botched hotwiring causing a short or perhaps other abuse.
The earth is good and the engine turns over healthily so the main wiring should be ok. Would a cooked regulator/rectifier or generator stop the plug from sparking? My gut instinct is no, but then what do my guts know about bikes! |

I had assumed that the ignition only activated the electrics as a whole, like the kill-switch - but you might have something there.

Connections
Alex,
You are in a different situation from me, but have a similar problem - I have just got some progress with my issue (see my thread for the gory detail!). What I would say/advise is look for the simple things first - loose connections is commonly quoted and that has turned out to be my problem, but not where I expected it to happen!! Keep checking!!
