non start xt600e

Hi guys!
Bike has always started well rain hail or shine, except for yesterday morning after i finished nights. Because it had started a bit sluggishly the morning before i put it on charge for a few hours and it was showing green (fully charged). It started well that night and off i went to work. In the morning i tried to start it and the starter was very sluggish and after several goes at trying to start the battery was definately flat. I got the bike going with a power pack and road home. Tested the battery and it was showing 12.84 volts. Charging system is okay because its showing 14.5volts when running.

Batterys less than 12 months old (motobatt)
Starter motor cleaned and brushes renewed 4 months ago

It was raining the morning it wouldnt start could this be connected?
Any of you more experienced folk with any ideas where to check first?

Thanks!
Bill

I had a similar problem on a bike once..battery showed fully charged on bike etc but didn't have enough amps to turn the bike over.

Id try and get hold of the original suppliers and swop it..

New battery for me.

I had this on a ccm r30 with a 710 kit on it. A 1300 HYABUSA battery was a direct swop. Same physical size but more oomph due to the size of engine etc

Yup, sounds like that battery is bad even though it's only a year old. If it ever had gotten drained dead and stayed for a couple days it would kill a good battery. Some batteries just don't hold up. Yuasa is my favorite for quality.

Just looking at purchase date of battery and its 16 months old. Still , wouldve expected it to last longer than that. Other than swapping it out i dont suppose theres any way testing it?
Cheers for the replies also

tbh id be happy with 16 months.. esp considering what it has to do on a big single..
I got my last battery from Halfords.. they will price match anywhere local,at least mine in Derby did.
I wouldn't go ebay route.

Just checked ebay for prices...YUASA FOR £17 DELIVERED!!!!...Hmmm maybe I would go ebay route after all

I know of a battery that was shot in 2 weeks. It was left in a quad that had drained it down and it sat there for almost a week. The battery never charged after that.

Ask for a refund (12 month warranty) and READ THIS.

Checked when i bought it mezo and its 16 months old. :oops2: thought id seen somewhere about them having a 2 year warranty which would be nice. Have to park it up a hill at work then at least until payday.
Thanks for the help everyone!
