What are te temp for sae 20w 50 yamaha lube? Thanks

Yamalube is no good, buy a good oil for your bike! Motul, Silkolene, Bel ray 10W-40 is good for the bike.

I run 20W-50 in the summer when it is 75F to 100F, otherwise switch to 15W-40 and 10W-40 for a bit cooler(40F-75F). Winter I never use the 20W, only 10W. Most of it is all synthetic so flow rate doesn't get as slow as with regular dino oil in the colder temps.

I have to take issue with Yamalube being no good. Of course, compared to modern synthetic, which I use exclusively, it won't measure up. My XT has always had Yamalube 4 stroke from new in 86. Engine is clean as a whistle, compression measured 170 lbs on a new compression tester. Engine pulls like a tractor, especially since I put on the Zeeltronic programmable ignition.

I now use Amzoil 10w40 synthetic. I trust it is doing the job as I expect it to.

My current top end rebuild on my 84 Xt is going well. Engine is clean inside despite being idle for 25 years. PO had put in what smells like 90 weight gear oil in it. He overfilled it and it looks like he smothered it as the top of the piston, valves and combustion chamber was coated with thick oil. I suspect this is why he parked it. Hurray for me. I've had the bike for 10 Plus years after purchasing it for $100.00 as a parts bike. Once I got in the XT600 mode again I discovered I had a gem of a bike to go along with my 86. Once I get the top end reinstalled after a hone, new rings, valve job and all rubber products replaced this bike will be almost road ready. Need tires, tube and chain.

I am using the aftermarket Ignition from New Zealand on this bike because I have it. Once broken in we'll compare the 84 to the 86 performance as they will be geared identically at 3 to 1. If there is a major difference in performance, we'll swap ignitions around and test again. This should be an acid test on the Zeeltronic ignition. I am sure if we see the ignition to be the difference in performance and the difference is considerable we'll most likely get another zeeltronic and use the hyperpak as a spare.

I used Yamaha Lube (mineral 20w50) for most of my journey around the world on an XT600Tenere - 252.000km - and I still use it sometimes in my Africa Twin today ... but I change the oil regularly every 5000km ... just my 2p worth of advise ... saludos desde Bolivia mika

Yeah i agree its wrong to name yamalube no good, what i ment is that there is better products in the market. And yes its very importan to change the oil often and once a year if you dont ride much.

Motorcycle oil at 8-10 bucks a quart is a little expensive, I do frequent oil changes on two xt's. So hearing that Rotella was recommended on a few blogs, and fairly inexpensive at Walmart at 4-5 buck a quart. I tried it, and it seems to work fine. regards Mike

I've got to switch back to my other oils that I used to always use since changing this spring to Rotella in several of my bikes. The 2 XT's that I put the Rotella in now have clutch issues with being impossible to shift to neutral, can't adjust the clutch cable any better for disengaging, they seem to have a dragging feeling ,even put a new cable on one. Both work fine when cold, the hotter they get the worse the clutches get. No sign of slipping , just harsh,vague engaging/disengaging when at full temp and progressively worse the longer I ride. It is the correct jugs that now have the JASO MA rating on them ,though they didn't till this last year.

If it would be just one, I'd say maybe bad plates but with both doing the same thing and the very 2 that I'm running Rottella in now :confused1::confused1:,
I'll be putting some of the good stuff in to see if they improve again,that'll tell me if it has to do with that oil. Now thinking about it more, my KLR(got it cheap, annoying heavy tank) also has it in it and it's clutch has acted weird also, same symptom when hot, just haven't been riding it much.
