Oil usage
i have just bought a 1993 xt 600e is it normal to lose oil through the breather pipe, i have a small patch on the floor after each ride
|
xts generally only lose oil from the breather when overfilled. check oil level with bike upright and running. keep upright, switch off and check again.

Don't forget to check oil level AFTER you have driven at least 10 km or so. It's no use trying to check before, even though it's in the book. Let the engine idle for at least a minute, stop engine and then check.

I had a problem like that on a XTZ 600 - it turned out that a mechanic (I use use the word lighly...!) had overfilled it. So I took the bik eback. Next time I picked it up the whole thing went up in smoke becuase he had just filled the oil tank when it was cold and obvioulsy iver filled it again ! The oil travels up through the breather pipe as it expands under pressure, and on my bike, then entered the carbs and then the cyclider - resulting in ahuge amount of white smike and a road covered in oil !
So. The moral of this story is heed the advice above and check the oil levels are correct. cheers, Simon |
thanks for the replies, its seems as that was the problem the guy where i bought it said just fill it up to the brim obviously this is too much. thanks again
