painting xt 600 plastic's
hello all,
I have a 1984 xt 600, I would like to paint my rear&front fender, side covers, front fork boots and headlight cover black, the fenders are white and the side covers are white & black now the front fork boots are red. I am going to have to use spray paint. Should I sand these? Should I primer them? what color black should I use gloss or flat? should i clear coat them after? |
I'm not expert but the type of plastic doesnt take paint very well due to it being very flexible.
If you do it at all , you need paint which is quiet "elastic" if you know what I mean. |

Hi xtfun i have just painted my tank and plastics and i think they are not bad the trick is to wet flat them but do not break through the gel coat on the plastic as most spray cans will react to it i used hycote tins they do a plastic primer which coats great the use some scotchbright fine and then your top coat the whole lot cost about 25 quid hope this is of help if you like i will email some pics cheers stomper
