Pannier Rails & Screen for IVJ XT600 Tenere wanted

Hi folks,
I am looking for a set of pannier rails for my 1987 IVJ Yamaha XT600 Tenere.
Does anybody out there have a set with fittings which they don't use or
don't need any longer? It's amazing what folks have lying round in their
garage for years; unused!
If you have a set for sale, please make contact

I am also looking to fit a screen to the standard nose headlight surround fitted
to the standard 1VJ. Does anybody out there have any information on a screen
which will fit to the standard fairing without too much work i.e. make and model and
where I can get one please?
Thanks for your help folks.
Cheers
Cliff

Mini screen

I have fitted a Givi mini screen. £15 ebay . The size is perfect and what a difference it makes . Fits to handlebars and cross-brace very neatly.

Pannier mounts

I forgot to mention where I got my pannier mounting rails. Ebay.de. The Germans have loads of bits for these machines. The rails were for a later model but were modified to fit. The only problem with dealing on Euro ebay is paying. Money transfers cost a fortune. I have sent cash on four occasions with no problems.

1VJ Screen & Pannier Rails - Cheers Bernard

Bernard - many thanks for the response - the only one so far!
With regard the Givi mini screen, I cannot find one on e-bay at present or anywhere else for that matter. Any ideas where I can get one please?
Thanks very much for the info on the pannier rails. I have managed to find a supplier in the UK, but they want £220 for new and £150 for a second hand set. Seems a little on the excessive side me thinks!? However, I will try German
e-bay and see what is available; but I will have to brush up on my German a little first!!!
Cheers mate.
Regards
Cliff
P.S. If anyone else can help, I will be pleased to hear from you.

Pannier rails

Hi Cliff

Could you tell me who the U.K. supplier you mention is?
I was knocked off recently and might need a quote for insurance purposes.
I will keep an eye out for a screen. You will not believe the difference it will make.

Pannier Rails & Screen for 1VJ XT600 Tenere

Hi Bernard,
Thanks for responding again. Hope the shunt wasn't too bad.
The supplier of the pannier rails is David Lambeth Rally & Overland who is based
down on the Kent Sussex border. His phone number is 01892 853913 and his
e-mail address is bigbluecoach@hotmail.com.
Cheers for your note about the screen. I would be happy to purchase a new
screen if you know of a supplier, rather than wait for a second hand one to come up on e-bay.
I have been trying to find a screen which will bolt to the standard fairing/
headlamp surround, but the angle of the top of the fairing makes it rather
difficult to find anything suitable, unless anybody out there knows of one
which would do the job? Having said that Bernard, your option of a handlebar mounted screen would be fine if I can find one!
Cheers mate.

The address here should take you to an image and details of the screen I use on my 1VJ. The crappy plastic logo comes off easily.

tenere screens

HI, Not sure if there is a difference, I have a 3AJ tenere. but while i was in the UK i think a company called Skid Marks was making touring screens that fit. give them a call they might be able to point you in the right dirrection.

My input to a recent screen thread. I don't know what your bike is like when compared with an X600E. There is a picture of a bike for sale in the sale section, against Jimmy46. It shows the screen.
"I looked at Jimmy46's bike and it looks like a Givi 601 screen. So that's what I bought - £49 from Buster's with post. It's well made and a good shape at bottom to fit round my headlamp (2003 model XT600E) I get alot of buffeting noise (esp with open face helmet) but can ride at 70 mph with my hands just loose on the bars, ie no wind loading. The buffeting would be gone if the screen were around 4" higher (checked by holding my gloved hand at top of screen when riding). I am 1.77 m tall.I had to cut down the support bars by 50mm as the screen was standing too far forward on the bike, leaving a big wind gap."

Pannier Rails & Screen for 1VJ Yamaha XT600 Tenere

Hi Bernard, Ryan & Boxer,
Thanks for your input guys.
Bernard - fantastic, thanks very much for supplying the link. The A660 Givi Universal Screen looks just about the right size, although I have noticed this is designed to fit a naked motorcycle with a round headlight. Bernard, does this in any way affect the performance of the screen and did you need to cut away the sections which go either side of the headlight for it to fit, or did it just bolt straight on with no modifications and works and looks fine? I am going to try and track one down from a supplier as soon as I can. Cheers mate!
Ryan, I have got Skidmarx contact details from their website and will also give them a ring to see if they have anything suitable.
Boxer, the screen on Jimmy 46's bike looks pretty good and the Givi 601 may be an option, althought like you, I am not sure how the 1VJ Tenere compares to your 2003 XT600E.
Thanks again for your help and suggestions guys; much appreciated. Anybody out there with pannier rails?
Cheers
Cliff

Hi Cliff
You're right that it is designed for a round headlight but the slight gap this leaves it's not detrimental in any way. It looks good and is effective.
Email me and I will send images.

Quick update. Just done 5 days in scottish highlands. Givi 601 screen needs to be 4"taller. Very noisy turbulence. And one of the clamps fell apart, but that's my fault, not checking tightness since I put it on.

IVJ Tenere Screen & Pannier Rails

Hi Boxer,
Thanks for the update. Hope you had a good time in the Scottish Highlands. Out of interest, what height is the Givi 601 screen you have fitted? From your feedback, the height of your screen plus 4 inches will give the perfect height to
avoid excessive turbulance?
Cheers
Cliff

Cliff - the top of the screen is 14.5 inches above the top of the cut out for the headlamp. My screen is set so theedge of the bottom cut out is 2 inches above the top of my headlamp. I may be able to move things up a bit, but not yet as one of my mounting brackets fell off and I'm using a cable tie at present.
This might help you;
http://www.givi.co.uk/caschi_borse_b...ri.asp?cat=111
The extra 4 inches is approximated, by holding my hand up as I rode. What I couldn't work out is whether my extended arm was also helping. I may try a temporary add on if I can think of a way to do it.
Scotland was great, although 10 hrs trip to Gairloch and full luggage was a bit tiring. Not to mention the chain oiler incident (I dropped bike by getting off and forgetting to put stand down (???) - this pushed my chain oiler to one side. It wore through and oiled my back tyre. Spotted before I piled it up. I'm getting too old for all this).
Regards.
