Parts for 1VJ Tenere 1986 - electric start engine

Hi All,
is there anybody who can direct me to any after market parts place to find a suitable CDI for my bike?
In alternative any information about DIY CDI ?

The original part is still available but it's priced up to 400 €uros!!

Thank you for any suggestion
ciao

Hmmmm my last reply didn't.... reply that is... so I will try again.

There is a company based in New Zealand (HyperPak) who does aftermarket CDI's. If you search on ebay.com now for XT600 CDI (include title and description in your search) and they are about $155 US.

I don't know if anyone has any experience with these beasties but they have some positive comments on other forums with XT and SR owners.

What they say is probably true - the modern aftermarket replacement should be better performing that a 20 yr old design which has been sitting in storage for 20 years!

The Hyperpak unit wont work with the electric start of the 1VJ.It'll start with the kickstart, but will only turn over on the electric start.
The Hyperpak doesn't have the blue/white wire that connects up in the starter button. It seems this is a cutout of some sort on the electric start side only.
I emailed them about this and got no response. So I now have an aftermarket CDI unit that I can't really use.

Alternative CDI - 1VJ electric start

Thanks mates for the info.
I have found a web site where somebody explains how to make a cdi but I have not yet tried to do it myself. look at this and give me your comments

CDI for XT600-XT550

the cost of the component is just few euros and if it works would be nice.
is there anybody who tried something similar?
bye

post pics and all the details you have on the hyperpak unit as it sounds like an easy ish fix to get it working on the e/start too

Don't have pics, but I'll list the wires it has.

Has the 3 wire plug for the pickup coils - red/white,green/white and green.
2 wire plug for the stator, orange (which goes to red) and a brown.
Black/white(kill switch),black(earth) and orange (coil)
As you can see,it's missing the blue/yellow(mine is faded so it looks white) and probably a blue of you still have the side standcut off, which for some reason in my manual is not hooked to anything so maybe the southern hemisphere bikes didnt use this.

It's annoying it doesn't work with the e start as when it's in there, the bike has a lot more noticable midrange grunt.
