Poor running
See previous message.
Have just read some comments on breathers and oil level. There is alot of oil in the airbox. When I bought bike the oil level COLD standing was at top mark. Could very excessive oil level be causing poor running (by misting into air intake?) On opening throttle at standstill should the CV carb slide lift? Mine does not. |
maybe too much oil is the reason for your problem.
change oil. clean carburettor. buy yourself a repair manual. i can recommend the clymer manual (Clymer Pubns; ISBN: 0892875461). of course it's for xt600-models up to 1989, but engine and general work-procedures are almost the same. regarding carburettor-cleaning, you may refer also here: http://www.xt600.de/xt_technisches/%...r/vergaser.htm of course its in german language but at least the pictures might be helpful. second carburettor works only in higher revs. the secondary throttle starts to open when primary carb opening is 7 mm. good luck! klaus mailto:klaus@xt600.de |
hello there a lot of carb problems on xt's are due to split inlet rubbers sucking air in causing a lean mixture.a very short 6mm allen key is required to remove them.once removed check for any hairline splits and the o ring is in good codition.they can usualy be repaired with super glue, instant gasket and/or tape.to ceck oil level on old[18 inch rear wheel]xt's run engine, switch off wait 30 secs dip oil.i hope this has been usefull
