possible cylinder head cover gasket?
Hey I wondering if it was possible to use a gasket instead of rtv sealant on the cylinder head cover and if you cant why cant you? Also the bike im thinking about doing this with is a is 84 XT600.

There is no gasket because of the fine tolerance on your cam journal, using a gasket would have your camshaft wobbling around, OK im exaggerating it so to explain it easier.
It may only be a few thou difference but that is enough to do damage the camshaft & journals eventually. You only use the very thinnest of smears of sealant, any more & it will squeeze out into "little worms" and block your oilways, been there done that, learned a lesson. Mezo. |
Ya the last thing i need is another damaged cam shaft. So i got another question for you. I know the crank case covers are magnesium but what about the actual crankcase and the rest of the motor? Also thank you again you've helped me a lot Mezo.

Just the covers are magnesium, the rest is just plain aluminium.
