Rear caliper dust seal xt600e `03model
Hi
Yesterday I was cleaning up my rear caliper. I was struggling to get the circular spring clip that sits in the dust seal back in place. My questions: Is there an easy way of fitting this? Is this spring vital to the operation of the dust cover or indeed the brake? Thanks in advance! Bill |
Can you post picture of your problem, have changed this on different models but dont know if 03 is similar.

Hi Xtrock!
The metal spring clip fits inside the lip of the dust cover and holds it against the caliper body. Is this the same as yours? Bill |
Yeah its a bit of pita, but doable. Just take your time :thumbup1:

Its a long time ago, but i dont think it was the same spring. But yes it was a spring clip holding the rubber, cant remember i did something special to get this mounted. You must get this into place to prevent dust entry. Can you explain what is the problem getting this in place?

Its easy to get the dust seal in 1st, but the spring clip is a larger diameter than the smaller hole(which fits in the pistons lip) ive tried putting the spring clip in place in the dust cover, and then on to the caliper but i feel it will tear the rubber this way. I will persevere with it tomorrow. Thanks guys

It will fit the same way and place as you took the old one out, sorry for not beeing the best to understand and explain because of not beeing the best in english..

No problem - I wouldnt have known english wasnt your first language either if you hadnt said! It was very good!

The dust seal looks the same as your standard automotive caliper dust seal in which the spring clip is always fitted last, after the dust seal is in place.
And yeah the dust seal is important as it not only stops dust getting in, but also stops water getting in which can cause the piston to rust and the caliper to corrode. |
Hi Bobmech
Yeah I realise the importance of the dust seal itself, it was the spring clip I was wondering about leaving off. I will try and get it on again later.........if it stops raining! Thanks! bill |
Did this myself a couple of weeks back. Bit of rubber grease and a lot of patience. I had to leave it and go back to it as it was doing my head in.
