rear tire size?
Hey...any one know if its ok to fit a rear tire 140/80-17 on my xt600....got some off road tires on my africa twin and the only differance is the rear tire thickness.....
|
My 1VJ runs a 120/80 18 which actually looks and feels a little puny by modern standards. There seems to be plenty of room in the swingarm, and as the book (Clymer) lists a 130 as standard on the early TT600s, I was going to try a 130 when the current MT21 needs replacing.
I would think a 140 would go in, and as you've got it already, I'd go for it, esp if you're doing muddy offroading this winter - wider tyre = more traction, surely? For road only use it'll probably not do fuel consumption or top speed any favours though. |
I'm running mefo mfc12 140/80x17 on my xt600, but I've got an aftermarked exhasut system, dont know if that changes some clearance issues.
Plenty of room in the svingarm :) |

Beware of getting too close to the chain - there's not much room!!!

Don't know if its really applicable, but I'm running a 140/80 Pirelli Scorpian on me TTR600RE. Close, but OK.

cheers I ll let you know how it goes,if I have time I ll try to have them done this weekend...

Got a 150/60-17 Dunlop on the rear of my XT6.....
Had to shim out the exhaust a little.....& remove the stock chain-guard, but that was the only issues with clearance I had.:thumbup1: |
a 160 road tyre will fit without fouling the chain itself :thumbup1:
but the rim and swingarm to accept that kinda wheel might be an issue as i swapped those out on my beastie :innocent: as you have the tyre already i'd try it and see what happens. |
Heres a shot of the chain clearance with mefo stonemaster mfc12 140/80x17

I use 130/80 18 MT21s on my '03 XT600e with no probs (had a 18" rim spoked onto the stock hub)
