Removing the airbox - aftermarket air filters
I have a 3AJ engine that I'm using as part of an offroad go-kart project. I don't have the original airbox.
I plan to use a pair of K&N style "universal cone" filters. Looking at the dimensions I don't think that I'm going to have space to fit them directly onto the carbs so I guess I'll need to run some kind of fat (50 - 55mm ish) hose to wherever the filters are mounted. Has anyone done this mod before on their bike? How and with which filters? Thanks in advance, - James |
I reckon you should go the whole way and fit a complete ram-air kit, complete with huge roof-mounted scoop!
Good luck with in Jimbo, and have a top christmas season mate. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif |
you dont have to use K+Ns there are lots of other makes out there in all sorts of shapes and sizes, K+Ns are also about the most expensive! have a look in some websites, demon tweeks, pipercross etc, and hien gericke have some very good value ones.
you may have to re-jet the carb if you get the engine breathing better. if you get it going can i 'ave a go, mister? ------------------ dave |
Did you ever get you engine sorted with some rubber pipes and air filters? Did you have to rejet? I am thinking of making the same sort of modification to my 3AJ so I can fit an aftermarket Acerbis plastic tank. I'd be interested to here from you, or anyone else who's don this or something like it!

The engine still remains unrun and without filters fitted. |
Interested in selling the engine and/or kart?
